After reading many of the old posts, I have a question regarding exhaust shutters. First, I will describe what I have:

1983 Tiara 2200 Continental
260 Mercuiser
Alpha 1

I am in the process of replacing manifolds and risers, as well as exhaust connecting boots, etc. Removed the exhaust boots from the starboard side and found no exhaust shutter. The post/pin is there, but the shutter is missing.

I have noticed that the water flow from the starboard side exhaust of the sterndrive is significantly less than from the port side.

Is this shutter stuck in the Y-pipe? Or is it likely disintigrated and gone?

Yes, I run in salt water.

Thank you in advance,

Ray

I found mine just as you see in the picture above. Remove the drive and take a peek. My riser was much hotter on one of the sides, can't remember which. Then when I took off the drive to for reg. maint. and saw the above picture. After replacing the shutters to both sides, riser temps seemed to be very equal by touch.

Good luck..

Could be its in the pipe, or it could be completely disintigrated. Only one way to really know, pull that outdrive. :)

Ayuh,....

It takes removing 6 nuts, the trim rams,+ an $8.00 gasket set to find out.....

My 3.0 OMC flapper burned off the pin and jamed in the drive port. Ran like crap above 3000 and got hot. Looks like if they can make tiles for the space shuttle, they could use a material that exhaust heat wont fry. Just make it out of anything laying around, the suckers can fix it when it goes.

I dont think we could afford to drive our boats with the cost of a space shuttle tile or two on 'em!:D
