I have been fighting this for a while now and have been reading forums regarding this and havent quite figured out why mine doesnt work. My understanding of how this works is that It only latches on the adjusting pin in reverse gear. In forward or neutral its not supposed to be engaged.
SO here is whats happening,
Gear in forward, Drive position - Down all the way. If i pull outward the drive latches. If i pull down on the reverse latch just a hair and then pull the drive outward, it does not latch.

photo 1.JPG Here you can see the latch mechanism barely touching the adjustment pin, this is with the drive in the down position, if i pull the drive outward the latch mechanism catches on the adjustment pin as you can see herephoto 2.JPG

This is in reverse now, note the clearances. photo 3.JPG

This is the push rod and thrust sleeve with latch in home position, photo 4.JPG
This is the push rod and thrust sleeve with me pulling down on the latchphoto 5.JPG

I have right now, the thrust sleeve flush with the fork. I dont understand why it wont release when in forward gear. AM i missing something or havent adjusted something correct? I folowed the manual to the letter.
PLease help.

Also, i noticed when i tilt the drive up, al the way, the thrust sleeve sticks out quite a bit from the hole in the fork, and so when i trim it back down, the trim ram foot bends the sleeve. it works ok if i dont trim it up all the way.

Put the control in reverse, can you lift the drive?

Just tried, i cant lift the drive in reverse. If i pull on it, it moves about 1/2 an inch before the latch catches.
It does this in both fwd and neutral.

Below is how to adjust the reverse lock. Might want to go through and make sure everything is as it should be.

This was what i used, i double checked everything snd it still doesnt pull up in forward without manually pushing down on the retaining pawl assembly. It works like it should in reverse, it doesnt let go, but i dontmunderstand why it wont let go in forward gear.

I'd be more concerned about bending the sleeve on the thrust rod. The way you described it, it's up too far and not adjusted correctly. Go back to the section on adjusting that sleeve and adjust it correctly. It shouldn't stick up above the frame when depressed by the lift mechanism. If the sleeve is bent, it may bind and prevent you from raising the drive using the lift mechanism.
