I have a volvo 131A with 275 outdrive and it shifts smoothly into reverse gear when I first start or start from a cold engine. After cruising back about (4200 RPM WOT) to the dock about 16 miles from fishing in our local lake it makes a thunk going in to reverse. It only does this after long runs and it's happening in the same manner for the past week. I am using reverse while in the staging area near the dock and always at idle. The fluid (30 weight motor oil) in the drive is clean(no water), has proper level, and is new this season. Any thought on where to begin? I was thinking that the idle is maybe running high, but don't trust the rpm gauge.
