28 hp johnson age

Today I bought a johnson 28 hp model # rx-11a serial #2335939. how old is it? it seems to be complete and pretty clean. all of the wiring seems fine. do i have any business considering fixing this up and putting it on my 20 ft pontoon boat i just bought? i paid $75 for the engine. i would appreciate any input.

It's a 1963. The 28hp was the 1950's 30hp "Big Twin" revived. should be reliable, easy to work on.
May need new coils, and a new water pump impeller is ALWAYS a good idea!

Good rugged simple motor.-----If you are interested in working on it yourself it will be a cheap motor to own and operate.----That is compared to owning an efficient modern motor that requires dealer service at say #100/ hr

Thanks for the info. I have a friend that is going to help me work on it. I really dont mind the fact that it is old as long as it gets me there and back.
