I'm replacing the bearings in my Bell housing "Flywheel cover" It looks like the drive u-joint yoke sits in the aft axle seal ( the aft seal in the bell housing). While the bellhousing axle seals to engine side seal. Anyway the engine side seal point on the shaft is a bit rusty and I was thinking of replacing the shaft along with the bearings and seals. Ive tried to find the shaft online, but Ive only found a similar shaft.

If you look at this shaft, you will see a polished tip protruding past the splines on the engine side. The shaft I have ends where the splines end.

Will this shaft work, I seem to only find this shaft available.

The shaft in you're pic is for a single bearing flywheel cover, it sounds like you have a two bearing cover. The manual shows both setups

Keep your eye out on ebay. I bought a couple complete spare working used drives for <$300 total..

It's not the drive that's different, it's the PDS and flywheel cover. The upper gearbox nameplate will have the designator for the lower unit gear ratio. Those are different for 4, 6, and 8 cylinder engines. Nice thing about these drives is that many parts are interchangeable and they're extremely durable. I suspect most are sent to the junk yard because the boats rotted out around them and not because the drives wore out.

As captmellow mentioned, the manual shows the different PDS styles. Maybe it's me, but I'd be totally lost without engine and outdrive manuals.

I agree, these drives are tough.

I just replaced the upper drive, the old one had a seal leak from drive into the bellow. I took the rear housing off the drive to replace that seal along with that washer that you shim and it usually rusts. The housings were pretty bad where they mate, lots of corrosion. So I rolled the dice with a 150.00 upper off Ebay and was pleasantly surprised when I received it. It looks like a freshwater drive with original paint. I replaced the rear seals and washer I had for the other drive, along with the gimble. Reshimed and now it seems ready for another 38 years of use. The old drive functioned fine, just had a leak.

My neighbor works at a shipyard and I had him refinish the shaft, it had some pitting where the seals mate. Those are all filled in and shaft polished.
