290 dp Seal Removal Question

I have the same outdrive( 290 dp) and currently have the drives off. One bellows had a small amount of water in it when I took it off, so the u-joint yoke was a little pitted.Everything seems solid with the shaft , I am planning to put a speedy sleeve on the yoke at the seal placement and replace the rearmost seal running on the drive shaft. Obviously trying to avoid taking out the motors to access the carrier bearings and seals. One simple question, will I be able to remove the seal from the rear or does it come up against a shoulder from the making it only accessible from the inside?

Welcome to Iboats.

Might want to take a look at the service manual and parts breakdown.
The yoke has a replaceable seal surface that is cheaper and works better than a speedy sleeve.
The seal can be replaced from outside the boat but doesn’t do a very good job of keeping water out of the PDS bearings. That’s why it’s so important to replace the bellows before they start leaking.

Thanks, never imagined that Volvo would have a seal surface fix. Wonderful news that I can replace the seal from outside. I just bought the boat last summer and replacing all the boots was my first priority.( having had an earlier VP outdrive )
Now getting grease everywhere it is supposed to be is the current goal.
