Hello

I replaced the double lipped oil seal on my vp 290 outdrive gear shifter assembly. After rebuilding it following the manual it say I need to re shim the screw behind the selector shoe.
Should I need to re shim after only replacing the oil seal and o ring ?
There where 4 shims and I have refitted the 4 shims.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks David

Hi there, While Volvo would prefer that you adjust the shimming to the shift mechanism to ensue all is turning properly, usually as long as you didn't disturb the center bolt where the shims sits or replace any other parts but the seal, then re-shimming is usually not needed.

Some more confirmation if desired, http://forums.iboats.com/forum/engi...gines-outdrives/649696-volvo-dp-sm-shift-seal

Good luck.

Hi

Thank you very much for your reply and the link. I have read it through.
Folk are say if I haven't disturbed the screw and shims no need to re shim.
I have disturbed the screw but only to reseal the threads returning the same amount of shims.
I should be okay, shouldn't I ?
