There may be a lake or 2 that ban 2 cycle outboards, most likely a drinking water source. Who knows, maybe someday they will ban the sale of NEW 2 cycles, but you will still be able to use the ones you have.

It a situation like new cars. They have to meet more stringent emmission regulations, but your 7 year old car has not been banned, has it?

I'd be more inclined to suggest that they will not ban 2 strokes completely,

I'd think it more likely that they will ban carbed 2 strokes.. (or any 2 stroke that isn't DFI).

The new e-tecs are cleaner running then 4 strokes, so I can't see them getting banned.

rgds

Franki

If 2 strokes were gonna be banned I don't think GM would be developing one.

Hummmm..........

Right on Dhadley! They will never totally ban 2-strokes. Too may out there! Although some lakes have done away with them, that is a miniscule number in the great scheme of things. And they are making 2-strokes as efficient as 4-strokes anyway..

hello
well about the only thing I see doing away with 2 strokes and motors in general is saltwater:) :)
Long Live saltwater :)
in this country a statewide ban may be hard to enforce. most motors will be grandfathered. but who knows about our LEFT coast :)
good luck and no worries mate

I live in the state of confussion (washington!) and have heard no plans of banning 2 stroke outboards. There are a small lakes that have a no internal combustion engine regulation, but not many.

baddawg

To answer your question, most, if not all, carbed 2-stroke outboards will not meet the 2006 Federal emissions regulations.

Doesn't mean old ones can't be used, but does mean an end to manufacturing and selling any new ones after 2005.

Here is a link explaining the mandate:

http://www.marinebd.osmb.state.or.us/Clean/Outboards.html
