2x4 dimensional not PT for pontoon deck?

Here is my idea....I have a 28' older pontoon that had a 1/2" marine plywood floor put in last year. I'm 300lbs and when I walk around the boat the floor "gives" a bit. I DONT LIKE THAT FEELING.

I want to lay down non PT 2x4s that have been painted (all sides) with lifetime warranty exterior house paint. Caulk all seams, top and bottom. The boat is going to be used to take up to 10 people out fishing and must be super strong.

Personally do not see any reason not to do it this way. I assume it would last at least 5 years.

Sure I could just order 3/4 or 1" marine ply, but what fun would that project be?? Thoughts?

Thanks in advance.

Seems pretty ridiculous to me. 3/4" plywood will be very solid. If you're looking to save money, just go with regular exterior ply as opposed to marine and seal it well.

this is not a good idea.

even on a toon.....the deck is the sole of the boat....the sole needs strength. the 2x4 s do not have corner to corner strength but lateral strength....the plywood will flex corner to corner. where as the 2x4 s will not.

if you want more rigidity form the deck.....just use 3/4 ply or one inch. but this will add weight. do not use pressure treated wood unless you add a rubber strip on all the contacting aluminium surfaces.

I agree with the above for the most part.

Cover your 1/2" ply with 3/4", that'll give you 1 1/4" of solid lumber to support your weight... more than enough. Get the 3/4" ACX plywood and seal it with epoxy resin (both sides and edges) and seal the top of your 1/2" while you're at it.

Add the 3/4 right on top... Perfect and should be super strong

Thanks
