I have an 82 Galaxy that used to have a 120 in it. When I rebuilt the transom I put a 140 from an 85 Renken in it with the complete works in and out. The lowers on both are good. The 3.0 had a craked block under the intake but runs good. It has been about 60 - 70 hours now ands the lifters sound like they are collapsing and like a rear crank bearing knocking. If and when it quits will the '82 120 direct replace the '85 140? The 120 had the shorter shaft on the outdrive while the 140 had the longer style. The coupler on the 120 is no good. Is the 140 the same and will it fit on the 120 flywheel. The blocks are the same but is the bellhousing different or what is different that causes the drive shaft to be 2 diff length's. If the 140 gets worse or noisier then I want to drop the 120 in it to finish the season. The transom plates are diff but I should be able to make the shift and throttle linkage work fine. The exhaust tube might be a problem though. Will this be a task to swap or very simple? Can the splined shaft on the outdrives be swapped to make them interchangeable as well?
