i have a galstron with a volvo penta 3.0 gl motor, and the damn alarm wont shut up, even with the key out of the ignition it just keeps beeping, i have to disconnect the battery for it to quit, BUT when its running it doesnt beep.

makes no sense? i figured if something was wrong it would beep while it was running, not when its shut off.

it just started like the other day, i got it all ready to drop in, started backing down the ramp with my friend in the boat to launch, and as soon as i started going down the ramp, it just started beeping.

the beep is not new, it has always beeped, but only right before you start it when the ignition switch is in the full on position, not all the time.

anywho if anyone knows anything about it that would be great, really dont wanna take it to a mechanic

Yep what Bondo said^^^^^^^^^^ you have a dead short completing the circuit causing the alarm to get power.

Re: 3.0 alarm issue

It stops beeping when running because the oil pressure switch opens the ground side of the alarm circuit when there's oil pressure. When it is closed (engine not running) it connects ground to the alarm circuit. So, the sensors (oil pressure or tempurature) can't be the problem; your problem is on the positive side of the alarm circuit. When the key is off the ground side is normally connected to ground through the oil pressure sensor, but there is no power to the positive side so the alarm doesn't sound.

Normally there should not be power to the positive side of the alarm unless the keyswitch is in the run position. Something is causing power to go there even when the key is off (Possibly the keyswitch itself??)

Hope this helps,

Fred
