3.0 Alternator Alignment

Hello,

I'm working on getting my new 3.0 longblock back together to install.

I noticed on the old engine and then as I'm reassembling the alternator pulley is out about 3/16" when I check the alignment to the crank pulley with a straight edge.

I took the pulley off and there is a single spacer in there.

Should there be any issue dropping a shim in there to bring it out the 3/16" into alignment? I don't know if there was something taken apart by the previous owner and lost....

O don't see an issue with adding a shim so long as the bolts go in far enough to hold.

Can the pulley on the ALT be moved in/out to align?

It would be the pulley I bring out. The alternator is pretty fixed in its position. I would just be adding the shim behind the pulley

Don't know which ALT you have but many use press on pulleys, but some have a nut which hold. If there pressed on, most can be repositioned

In any case I did understand about wanting to move the crank pulley

This one is a threaded shaft with a nut. It has a mercruiser part number on it so I believe it's the original (or an OEM replacement).
