Trying to find out what year this engine is block#3915991 it came out of a 1989 but I suspect it may not be the original engine, the coupler is smoked, I removed it and it is not the modern triangle syle one its the other circluar kind with several bolt holes. I have a 1997 3.0lx cracked block # 14097080 and am wondering if I can just swap over the Flywheel, coupler and bellhousing? Also will swap the front motor mount if the rear is possible. Already swapped the electronic ignition which is working great. This will be going into a 1997 Bayliner Classic 1950.

Ayuh,.... The crankshaft bolt pattern changed in 1990, so the flywheel won't swap,....

If the flywheel has the clutch bolt holes, you can use the newer style coupler on it,....

Thanks for your help. Where do I go to get year/model info by going off my block number 3915991?

Trying to figure out if I have 2.5 or 3.0 here. Thanks

Does it have a pulley on the front of the crank or a harmonic balancer? The 2.5l was just a pulley the 3.0l was a harmonic balancer.

Thanks I will check this out tonight. Here's a pic of the coupler I need to replace (the one off the motor) along with a pic of the 97' coupler I plan to swap in. Hopefully.

It sure is a 2.5. Theres no issues with taking the electronic ignition off the 97' 3.0lx and running it on this older 2.5 right? Seems to run good. I timed it correctly in base mode.

The year of the engine looks to be in-between 1974 - 77 according to the serial number chart for the 4 cylinder engines. http://www.marineparts.com/partspage...elp/TECH16.HTM

Below should be some info that you may need to know for correct fitment. Be sure to read the notes for all of the engine couplers found in the links below to see if it may help any with your question using a visual for what you're working with keeping in mind the one and two piece rear main seals/year changes.
