Here it is I bought a 1979 Grady White angler last summer it had a 2.5 GM block it ran great for a month then the engine started loosing compression took it to the marina the mechanic recommended a new engine so I said fine he had the boat from last Sept. I received it back 2 weeks ago alright I take it out it doesnt want to start when it does it cuts off so i take it back<br />he tells me the timing was off and it had a manifold leak now when i get it back after that it starts running hot as soon as i noticed it i shut it down let it cool all the way down and bring it in now after new hoses thermostat 3 hundread bucks i go out and it starts fine at the dock get out the boat wont start its loosing pressure from the block you could actually see it i dont know if it was gas or exhaust i call him up rip him a new one and tell him to come get me<br />he gets on the boat and tells me the head gasket is blown how could this be on a new block that barely over heated !!! And the carburator choke is sticking like its glued together my buddy told me to put a holly on it so after he fixes the block before i kill him ill look into a new carb. any sugg. comm. greatly appreciated ohh yeah i didnt mention that the cost for this far exceeded the price of the boat im in over $9000 now please help.

Wow! I would be one crazy SOB - the mechanic owns this lock stock and barrel! <br /><br />I hate to say this but I wouldn't have any faith in that mechanic. I'd give him one lat time to fix it (for free) and then I would document everything and take it some where else and sue the him. $9K and you can't even ue the boat for a day? New hoses and thermostat - why? Didn't he notice a problem with the when he put the engine in?<br /><br />I've had really good luck with Eddlebrock Marine Performer carbs...BUT THERE SHOULDN'T BE ANYTHING WRONG WITH YOUR CARB - IF THERE IS WHY DID HE INSTALL IT????? Man I am getting mad and it's not even my boat!<br /><br />PS - Did he replace the manifolds and risers when he put the new engine in?

Listen to this he never tested the boat under load only in the yard with the muffs and to tell you the truth im not sure if he changed the manifold and the risers when he swapped the blocks I have documented everything and i have no faith in this guy I have documented everything <br />my next step is to call my lawyer and the BBB

if you payed with a credit card... call in a dispute.... thats what happened to me, pay some bucks to fix my outboard on my old boat and it blew five minute out, still in dispute but I wont have to pay

Unfortunately I paid with a check just spoke to my atty. he advised me to contact consumer affairs<br />he says they have freelegal services and can threatin or take there business lic.I also spoke to another mechanic today and explained to him what is going on and he couldnt belief it told me to bring the boat over but he has a 2 week back up.

I have a bad feeling that your manifolds and risers are NFG - should have been the first thing he checked. When is the last time they were replaced? Do you run in salt?

Well I know he had to replace the manifolds because the old one didnt fit the boat had a 2.5 in it he put in a 3.0 GM

WOW!!!!!!!!!<br /><br />Man you got problems, <br /><br />I wouldnt even take it back to this guy EVER!<br />This guy has had the boat since september and you just now got it back?? That right there is freaking nuts... He never tested it on load???<br />What the hell kind of mechanic puts an engine in and then doesnt put a load on it??<br /><br />All this cost 9K??? Correction the total im in for is 9000 I payed 4 for the boat last summer and got burned on that<br />now 4700 with this guy i refuse to get burned on this He called me today and said the manifold gasket blew out and he orderd the 3.0 gasket which he should of done anyway and i told him to change the risers I belief the only reason he called was i had my lawyer call him today ill keep you guys posted.

I got the boat back on Sat.took the mechanic along with me for the first run the boat ran great tookit out Sun. still ran good but when it hit 3000rpm or over made a funny noise i let the mechanic listen this morning said it sounds like the coupler so im out for a day or two.

tracyb3000 ,<br /> Find a New Mechanic...... Couplers don't make noises... They either Work, or they are Stripped.... Did the guy align the engine + drive when he installed the engine ??? I Bet Not... He's going to pull your motor to find the gimbal bearing or something Else is Wrong, And He Caused It, but he Won't tell you that.....<br /><br />I'm not saying there's Nothing wrong with your boat, Just that your Mechanic is the Cause of Many of your Problems..... Things he Should have Fixed, When he Installed the new Motor,+ Didn't... Or Things He's Done Wrong

Yeah I feel the same way I have to get a new mechanic but this guy has to do the job he was payed for initially.For example when I received the boat back Sat.He finally put the correct manifolds on the boat another carburator heat exchanger the list goes on but this guy has to get me on the water before I take it somewhere else.Even though he is an IDIOT!!!!!!!
