3.0 l Engine Code???

To All,

Just purchased a 2003 175 BR with a 3.0 l IO. I'm replacing the bad head gasket and need to know the correct engine code so I can order the correct parts. I also need to know if this is a 3.0l or a 3.0LX, again so I can get the correct parts... I've not been able to locate any codes on the block? I've looked next to the distributor and have found nothing?

Any help from the community would be much appreciated.

should be a small tag just above the starter , guessing part # 52364 should be the correct one

Ayuh,..... Welcome Aboard,.... The only engine code is the Merc serial number, usually found as BD says, on an aluminum tag by the starter, or possibly on the flame arrester cover,.....

There's not much differences in the various 3.0l motors,....
Many are the same motor, that Merc called different names over the years,.....
Biggest difference is the change in the rear main seal in '99 I believe,.....

Head gaskets are the same. Intake exhaust is the one that got to be right year. Just make sure it is to the correct year for yours. I got the oddball one with the big ports. Nothing interchanges with the newer or older motors there.
