Hi all,

I'm trying to get my 1991 Searay into top running form and one of the things I need to do is replace the aging cracked and split spark plug wires. Problem is nobody seems to be able to match up the proper wires with the information that I'm giving them.

The one place I called asked for the engine serial number but when I gave it to him, he said that information did not match up to the other information I gave him.

I'm wondering if the engine has been changed out.

Can anybody tell me which plug wires I need and if the engine is the correct age for the boat.

It is supposed to be a 1991 model.

The engine serial number is D428115 taken directly off the engine. It is a 3.0 litre Mercruiser.

Thanks

Not sure why that serial number doesn't come up, but it doesn't and it's not the first to not show up. It comes up as model number 430B100CB which isn't shown in the dealers program

It is a 1990 3.0L (not LX) engine going by most of the model number.

Do you have a points ignition or the DDIS ignition?

Many times pictures work wonders to answer questions.

You can probably give SeaRay a call with your hull ID number and engine serial number and see if it was original to the boat.

It definitely has points. The entire inside of the distributor looks brand new. I set the gap on the points to 0.016, they were at 0.020.

The spark plugs are also in brand new condition. The plug wires on the other hand have seen better days, they are split and cracked.

Re: 3.0 litre engine information

I have a 3.0 myself, plug wires are availiable here on the I-boat store or any NAPA auto parts. Just ask foe a marine 3.0 4 cyl spark plug set and they also come with a coil wire. Engine number is not needed unless you are after specific parts designed for that particular engine and plug wires are not that specific. Hope this helps.
