I have a 1992 mercruiser 3.0L 115hp I/O 18 foot chaparral. I have the opportunity to buy a rebuilt LX head from a 1994 maxxum. I need to know what I need to do to complete this swap. Do I need a new manifold and carburetor etc?

Thanks,
David

Re: 3.0 manifold question

jdcook, what's in Clymer doesn't really surprise me too much. But I have never seen a listing for a Mercruiser 115.They used to use Renault engines, like 80,90 Hp,then went to GM for 110,then 120/140.

Mercury Outboards did/does make a 115,that was 2.5L DFI.

Maybe that's what you are thinking?

DHP

Re: 3.0 manifold question

Thanks for all the replys. The 115hp rating was on the boats title. I emailed chaparral and they replied this morning and stated that the HP was 125. Anyway, the engine I presently have is the 181 CID GM motor. The engine the new head comes from is also the 181 CID GM motor but it is the LX version rated at 135hp at the prop. I was told that the manifolds are different but they didn't know about the carburetor or other components. Any helpwould be apprciated.

Thanks again,
David

Re: 3.0 manifold question

The heads are different on the LX, that's why they have a tad bit more horse power. I really don't know if the other bolt ons will work. I'd be willing to bet they would. Try emailing Mercruiser and see if you can get a reply.
