Hi all, 1st time poster.. Put in a new starter today and it cranks over and starts fine but I have no power at my coil on the positive side from my purple resistance wire so it will not stay running. I do have power from the key on the purple wire. The purple wire also gets very hot at the coil but has no power(Weird). Is it possible I have a faulty solenoid in my brand new starter? The boat did not have this problem before. I do have power at my choke and coming back on the resistor side of the wire from the alternator.

No, it only has cranking power. As soon as I let off the key it dies. There is no constant power at coil. Power is supplied from purple/ yellow when cranking and then is supplied a by purple in run position. It has been tested with a light.

Bump... Anyone have any ideas? My next thought is to dig into harness for a short- but the new starter is the only thing that has changed.

Ayuh,..... Chase the purple wire's power,....

Start at the key switch, then the cannon plug where the boat's wirin' meets the motor's wirin,......

Thanks..any idea why the wire would be hot to the touch with no voltage at the coil? I don’t get that part.. it does look like someone jumped the plug connector with a piece of copper wire because of a broken male end..
