Hi all,

Purchased a boat from a dealer, 1999 with a 3.0 Mercruiser/Alpha One. Boat runs great, however when it warms up, it will die when shifted to Neutral and will not restart.

Dealer checked filter, lines and adjusted idle.

2nd time I wrassled this thing onto the trailer because I could not start her.

Advice/idea's please?

Thanks

Mike

Sounds like a lower shift cable needs to be replaced.
Look at the shift bracket where the shift cables are attached. Is the shift interrupt switch activated. If it is, there is your problem.

Thanks for the info/reply,

Sound exactly like what your describing and I called the dealer today to say that I think it might be the lower shift cable. I have been left out to dry 2 times on this during test runs, both times I have had to manhandle the boat onto the trailer becuase the engine died and would not start after it was warmed up and put into neutral.

My question is, should just the lower shift cable be replaced or is it common knowledge to replace all the cables at the same time? How does the other cables come into play (the throttle and upper)?. Is there a bellow related to this job and should it be replaced as well?

Thanks again for your feedback.

Mike
