We have a 1987 Sunbird with a 3.0 Mercruiser. It was hard to start first time out this season. Fiddled with the timing. Started great. Then slowly lost power after getting out of water started pinging noise. Did that a couple of times then ran okay at almost full throttle ( for 15 miles) . Turned it off and did not want to start. Backfired twice out of the carb. Finally got it started did not want to take off. Finally got power went to almost full throttle ran okay all the way home ( 15 miles or so) idled down to pull in dock and died did not want to start again. Don't want to Start, Idle, and has no power. There is gas in the filter going to the carb. Any ideas??? HELP. We have changed the Cap, Rotor and plugs. Any suggestions??
