:confused:Just bought a boat 91 VIP 3.0 omc, started run great outside the water! went and put in water, backed down ramp and it wouldnt crank, pulled it up ramp took it few seconds and it finally cranked! done that one more time, same results and then the third time i cranked it on land and left it running down ramp and into water! Run good ran it for about 45min. got to lookn down the barrels of carb when i killd the motor, gas would drip for 20 30seconds. Put re build kit in the carb, put it back on, n it wouldnt start it would start but only if the idel scerw is turnd all the way in,but idel bad, smoke,n it aint never smoked before carb kit, n when u give it gas it bogs down. Took the carb off looked it over made sure had everything right put it back on startd it crank right up, run and idled great. come back the next day to crank it up and it did the same thang smoke and and want start unless idel scew is all the way in and runs bad. i have checkd gas,new pluggs, screws on side of carb are one and a half turn out, float level seems ok. should i just buy a new carb???????? CAN ANYONE HELP ME

there is a sight hole in the side of the bowl, holley said the gas should be at the top of the sight hole. I check it and the gas is pretty close to top of hole

Have you done a compression check on this motor? and if so, what do cylinders read? just wondering.

If you used a Sierra carb kit, swap it out for a genuine Holley kit and see if that fixes you up.

If you search this forum you will find several people have had bad luck with Seirra rebuild kits for Holley carbs. You can call Holley tech support with the "list number" that is stamped on the carb (usually on/near the choke horn) and have them tell you exactly what carb you have and what rebuild kit number you need. Summitracing.com stocks many kits, as do several other online parts stores.
