Over the winter I think a frost plug blew out of my I/O. I'm not much a mechanic... but I'm not an idiot either. How hard is it to replace a frost plug... where do you get one and what do I need to do the job right? Is this a job I should try and tackle... or should I take it in and get a pro to do it for me...?

take the old one to a auto parts store, local mercruiser dealer, and get a "Brass" replacement.Apply some sealer, using a socket, bar stock, suitable driver etc, install untill flush. But I would use a rubber one first and check the engine. The block may have cracked , manifold may have cracked. test run and check the oil for contamination

Get a rubber one at the same place I assume?? Or are they more common? Would Bass Pro Shops carry that stuff? I'm not sure where the Merc dealer is in Nashville?? Anyone know?

Auto parts store will have the rubber ones. They won't hold up to running all the time as they will corrode off.
But they will work to test and make sure the block isn't cracked.
The reason they were popped is because it wasn't properly winterized, and they are NOT "Frost" or Freeze" plugs.
Read this about them.
