Hi
89 Alpha one s/n OC893275 on a 3.0 S/N OC 767253, had a shift boot bellows leak replaced it without removing lower unit. first day out it would die when going into gear. I found it was sticking all the way left and right and hitting killswitch. through more adjustment trial and error on ear muffs I have reverse but no forwards. cable is threaded but I cannot turn the barrel. I'm trying to follow Chris's video on youtube but need to know if this barrel indeed turns (it is twisting the whole cable when i try to spin it) Thank you! (i searched all over and read stickies before posting)

My buddy did it, followed a YouTube video, but does that barrel look like it would adjust? That is my main concern is trying to get the six inches from the end Chris said to start with in the video
thank you

Nah, it's not. ;) Done it plenty of times myself.

Those barrels are 'pinned' the the threads. The design is such that it should be at, or very close to, the 6 inch measurement.

The problem sound more like you 'crimped' the cable as you pulled it out of the gimbal housing when you replaced the shift cable bellows. I would suggest you pull the drive, then pull the inner core out of the cable. I'm sure you'll find a bend in the core. That's why the cable's not moving properly and killing the engine when ever you try to shift.

Chris.....
