Ok I have had my 3.0 manifold pressure tested, no leaks! changed oil and filter. No more water in the oil... thinking a bad gasket. But now my boat seems to not want to run right. Back fires a little chugging and only 3100rpms on full throttle in the water. After running for a while lost a few hundred rpms on the tach. then back fired and died, started right back up and revved fine in nuetral. Seemed like under a load the motor did not want to perform. The known issues are points need to be replaced and the fuel is old. Also going to do plugs cap rotor wires condensor. Any other suggestions??? Maybe adjust the throttle linkage? Any help would be apprieciated. Maybe its just me but it also seemed like my boat should have been going much faster than it was. almost like it did not get on plain.

Ayuh,... Do the Tune Up, 'n change the Fuel Filters,... Then try it....

The backfirin' is from a Lean condition,... The carb may need rebuildin'...

Bond-o is right on.

if your still concerned after about the throttle linkage, adjusting the throttle linkage wont effect running, and unless someone has messed with it WOT wont be effected either ( ie changing the amount of throw or movement ) it's typicallly not an issue.

to check simply set to full throttle position and look into the carb and see that the main butterfly is straigth up and down or almost, fully vertical isnt needed for full performance.

you can also temporarily disconnect it to see how far the carb throttle plate does move.
