Does anyone know if the timing cover for 3.0 is the same as the 2.5 gm block timing cover -this mercruiser part is so expensive and i was hoping someone knew any info. i read somewhere the 2.5 was a similar engine to 3.0 just with larger cylinders -
You may want to look at ebay. I needed a shift interrupt switch and found an entire valve cover assembly (including shift plate) for $30. Heck, I didn't even want the shift cover, but it came with it. Ebay for sure.
I have a good timing cover off my 1971 3.0l chevy. My 3.0 broke the timing gear and with other issues I decided to replace with a whole brand new engine. So now I have some parts left over from the 1971. The timing cover was not damaged. I think the 2.5 and 3.0 have the same timing cover, but not 100% sure.
