I have a 2.5L (1978) block and bought a 3.0L block from an early 80'2 boat. The block is bare with no crank, cam, or anything. I was planning on having is bored with new pistons but am wondering what will fit on this block from my original 2.5L. I have heard they are the same, but what about the crank and head? Can I use my head and crank on this 3.0 block? I know if I use my head I can reuse my manifold also. My reason for doing this is that my block is cracked pretty badly and leaks water badly. Any help would be appreciated.

Re: 3.0L block

If you log onto www.dougrussell.com or some other similar site, look up both engines, and do a print out dealing with the crank, cam etc. of each engine.Compare the part numbers, and maybe you can get some insight. To the best of my knowlege, the bore diameter is smaller, and the valves in the head are different,as is the manifold and carb.So I would think they won't function correct with the 3.0L.<br /><br /><br />DHP

Re: 3.0L block

the heads and gasket surfaces were different between the 2.5 and the 3.0 as well.

Re: 3.0L block

A 3.0 uses an external harmonic balancer on the front of the crank. I would sell the block (plenty of people are looking for one) and look for a complete 3.0.
