I have a 1986 seaway Seville with the 3.0l merc. I am having an issue where as soon as I start the motor it goes straight to very high rpm. I can not find any info on throttle adjustment. Any help would be appreciated. Any questions feel free to ask. Thank you.

Remove the throttle cable and hold the carb closed, does it still go high?

If it doesn't, adjust cable so it just slides back in place on the carb. Then remove again and turn the barrel one more turn so it applies a slight pressure to hold carb closed

Ok I tried that and was able to get boat to idle at regular rpms. Tried to adjust throttle cable to reach pin but there is not enough room to extend to the pin at idle position. Any possibilities or do I need a new throttle cable? Thanks again.

The second picture it depicting that to reach carb fully closed I still need about 1/4” to get cable onto the pin. But to get it there I would need to thread the barrel further to the left on the cable and there is no not room to go that way.

Ok
Throttle cable should be same length as original. Changing the cable should not change the adjustment. Dont see how a cable would get that much slop

Ok I don’t know if maybe I’m missing something. I’m new to owning a boat and also working on a motor with a carb so I could be doing something wrong.

The throttle should be in neutral, which I'm sure it is. Other then that just need initial adjust

Hi I would like to thank you for all your help. I’m just a jackass and I had the shift cable on the carb and the throttle cable on the shift control. Swap everything around and all is good.
