Good afternoon guys I have a 3.5 sea king, got it with a Jon bought I bought. Runs pretty good but as soon as you push the choke all the way back in it wants to die. But if you’re half choked it runs pretty good til you throttle it up. Have cleaned the carb float sits flush with bowl when it’s filled over. I read another thread about adjusting the idle screw, high speed needle on the bottom of the bowl. Now I’m at a lost I’m running 50;1 is that right? Any info on my situation would help thank you!

Proper mix for that engine is 24/1 of air cooled oil (Chainsaw oil) not marine twc which is for water cooled outboards.

Well, mea culpa. The sticker is calling for 16/1 ratio. The problem was probably not related to running 50/1 but either adjustments or dirty carb jets. I remember 60 years ago when I ran motors like that all the time it was an art akin to witchcraft to fine tune the fuel. Adjusting the needles while running to match engine speed and getting them to smooth out was constant but you will get the hang of it. It was good prep for when I started flying piston aircraft and was constantly adjusting mixture to match altitude.
