http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/e...0197208576&viewitem=&sspagename=STRK:MEWNX:IT

thats the link of the motor i have purchase.. its new.

here is the funny thing.. i have remove the whole upper unit of the sterdriver off the Intermiate housing. to clean and greese the upper unit so it will go up and down much better..

i have the new motor install and it will not even move at all. up or down..

i install the old motor. it will bring the whole unit up and down.. but it will give problem going all the way up.. specially when the sterdrive is fully down. it will take a few clicks to make it go up...

what is the different between the one i have purchase from Ebay.com and the original.. i have call the stor and they have told me it should be exactly the same..

It seem like the new motor is not as powerfull as the OLD dirty one..

whats the case

clean all wire terminal connections at the relays with a file.
file both sides of each ring terminal shiny.
and more importantly, file the side of the nut and washer facing the terminal shiny.

also clean the 50A barrel fuses (in the bracket starboard side of the carb) with steel wool, or replace the fuses and inspect the barrel fuse holders for corrosion

i put the cover back and made sure i put gasket so it will not be to tight the clutch will not engage.

I've used two gaskets on the cover before...sometimes they are still tight with one

kinda beating a wounded mare here.... from your other thread Oct 12th:
I recommend two 0308799 gaskets under the tilt clutch cover instead of the factory one gasket, greasing the tilt trunnions, and filing both sides of all terminals on the high current side of the tilt circuit shiny. also file the nut shiny.

Howard ! i have try all you suggested. but still no luck..

i have replace the 50AMP Fuse..

also i have directly connect 12V to the Motor and still no luck.

i have greese everything on the sterdrive so the it will move freely and it will be easier on the motor.. but nothing seems to work..

I have purchase two gasket. and use that.. no luck

i greese all the worm gear..

remove the clutch and check. and Oil it for a few hours..

.. the older motor had better change off moving the sterdrive than the newer motor.. WHy

the next step would be to get a digital voltmeter, learn how to do voltage drops and with a helper see where the resistance is in your circuit. The wires are 25 years old....

Re: 3.8 OMC TILT NOT WORKING!! Please HELP !!!

I check Wire, Fuse. everything.. found out that i needed more gasket for the motor. One gasket was not working very well.. it was to tigth and the hammer coupler was stuck so it will not spin...

How did i found it out it was the gasket..

I remove the Worm gear. and spin the motor and still wont spin.
so i try to spin the metal where the worm gear connects to inside the housing and still wont spin.

i lose-up the motor and spin it using the Pliers and it spin. WOW.

here is the weird thing.. The Old motor work better than the new one.. Why.. dont make sense..

Good to hear! Yes, two gaskets are the rule. I don't even know if the manual specifies this, but it has proven to be the requirement.

...also it does appear that some aftermarket tilt motors do not develop the same amount of torque that the more expensive OEM motors do.

Did you try to clean up your original motor?

I had a sierra one that was a monster. so much torque it eventually split the shaft where it forks to engage the hammerblow.

Did you try to clean up your original motor?

yes.. All i did was open it up. and the brush was half way.. did not replace it .. i just extent the spring apart so the brush will push harder to the armature.

Clean armature. . i just clean everything. and made sure everything was air dry..

I put it back together.. it run and spin nicely.. I still have to push twice on the switch to bring it up. but it go up OK!!. Going down is no problem.

It work better than the new Motor. thats for sure..

Longstand, if you want to mess with it some more (I DON'T recommend it, now that it works), there's an allen bolt in the far right end of the clutch shaft that's covered by a plastic plug in the end of the clutch shaft. You can CAREFULLY tighten that allen bolt/loosen it, such that the clutch has JUST enough grab to pull the drive back up. The PROBLEM with messing with this bolt is that if you over tighten it, the clutch will NOT release the drive if you hit a submerged object, so boater beware...
