3/8 or 5/16 hose

hey everybody ive got a 21 ft wellcraft center console with a 1979 200 hp johnson i replaced all fuel lines with 5/16 hose the boat had 5/16 and 3/8 hoses which one would be right(hopefully 5/16)motor is running ok but i have to squeeze the primer bulb about 20 times to get enough pressure in the primer solenoid for it to work to start the motor cold when i push the key in is this right or something wrong.THANKS

Adequate hose size is required for running. But would have no effect on priming or starting.

That is exactly why i replaced lines with 5/16,that was the size that fit the fitting on the built in gas tank 3/8 seemed to fit a little loose
