hey everyone picked up a new to me boat 92 Maxum bow rider 3 liter Mercruiser trying to figure out how much horsepower it has .
Research for the past couple days and found it there was technically 3 3 liters
A 3 liter LL 115 Hp
A 3 liter L 115/135 hp
A 3 liter lx 135hp

Now I'm pretty sure that 3 liter LL Was before the 90's and the 3 liter and 3 liter LX Started in the 90s

How do i find out how much hp it has

I've never seen anything but LX models in the '90s. Doesn't mean anything.... but I'll bet it's an LX.

Hey guys ya not sure if i have the l or not but..
Been doing some more research on the motors and im kinda starting to think that 115hp rating in the 3.0 is bull, i have read alot of good write ups on here in the past few days I mean first of all If the 2.5 is putting out 120hp And the 3 liter is a punched out to 2.5 displacement has gone up ur gonna gain not go down. And yes i k ow there was a 110 hp 2.5 but that was early on im the iron dukes life..i just cant see there being a 20 hp between the 3.0 and the lx model. Info is very sparse about the difference between the two motors. And the parts digrams are almost identical i dont see a 20 hp diff in a lil bit of porting.. im leaning the way alot of other people are that it was more a marketing ploy then anything. ... yes i can see a slight difference but not 20 hp.

A good write up in here some neat ideas

My bet is 135 HP LX. That was the most common motor. The differences in advertised HP was mostly how they measured it - crank or prop. And the only real difference year to year was ignition. And old ones had a different flywheel.

I looked your serial number up and all 3L from '90 up, C856659 and up, are 3.0LX. Which is a 135 HP rated motor. Good motor for the smaller hulls.

Ayuh,.... A picture of the motor, rather than the boat might help,......

The 3.0l ain't changed very much, other than different ignition, 'n carburation, over the years,...

The rear main seal, 'n crankshaft changed in '90, 'n several heads have been used, though any of 'em will run in place of another,....

Using the proper Mercury Part lookup, that engine, serial #0D707226, is a Mdl# 430B000ES. That is a 1992 3.0L (NOT LX!) and as such is rated at 115hp (at the propeller shaft)... It has a different cylinder head and uses different spark plugs. I have attached the specs sheet from the Mercury service manual (genuine), and you will see the different spark plugs and the fact that the spark plug specified on the engine cover (in your attached photograph) is indeed the one for the 115hp model.

Chris.......
