Been using my engine hoist for remove and replace the outdrive. It works pretty well but does not keep it level. Only used my engine stand a couple times and after seeing some of your drive jacks that got me thinking. Make 3 tools in one. Here is my engine stand, Drive Jack remove/replace, and Drive stand. Only thing I still need to add are clamps to hold the drive when I turn it. Could also use something to change the angle to level up, currently use a wood wedge slide in between bolt across the back.

After doing this job, I should have used heavier angle welded to the jack. The Bravo 3 puts quite a bit of torque load on the steel I used. I added another 1 1/8 box tubing under it to stiffen it up. If I used some 1/4 thick angle I had it would not have been needed. Maybe later I'll cut it off and redo with the heaver metal.

Nice adaptation to an engine stand. As they say; "Necessity is the mother of invention". There for some time I was rebuilding so many automatic transmissions that I built (actually my son's idea though) an adaptor setup that holds the transmission(s) and fits the engine stand so I could turn it over and work at any angle to rebuild them. I've been told to market it because it works so well. But I haven't...yet! With the right tools, either purchased or home built, you can accomplish so much so much easier... I like it! :thumb: :thumb:

Cobra 5.jpgDrive jack from Stumpy's Fabworks.jpg

Great job. I was going to adapt a motorcycle jack (I've seen this done on here too) but then I saw Stumpy's and for about the same cash it was perfect.

Thanks all, appreciate it.

gm280, use to rebuild automatics my self many years ago, never had a stand just put them on the bench. A modified stand would have been a great help.

I first remove the lower unit when reinstalling the outdrive unit. It makes the assembly light enough to install by hand.

Then I reinstall the lower unit without the prop. It's no big deal.

I worked for an AAMCO shop back when I was a kid, there was a set up we could use to hold transmissions where we wanted to. We had to use adaptor plates for specific transmissions. I really don't remember the specifics. Was putting myself through college but then got sidetracked into something else entirely.

Good job AllDodge. On one of my first jobs as welder/fitter/jig builder where we built medium to heavy duty equipment trailers I came up with several stands and jigs, etc. for framing up differing types of trailers and fenders, tongues, all that. It was the best part of that job, very satisfying.

Not sure if the Dodge in your handle refers to the MoPar brand, but I m a dyed-in-the-DNA MoPar guy, and was hoping to see some of them thar Dodges in the background of some of the pics, sigh.

Thanks Maclin, I like tinker'en, and things like this keeps me in the shop.

Been running Dodges for most my time, always liked them, didn't much like fixing them in the old days. Like all the other cars use to have to work on all of them and Chrysler products had some issues, but stuck with them. Picked up AllDodge handle when I got into my first forum (Dodge Cummings Diesel Forum) in 2000 with my 2500 diesel. Sold it and now have an 2008

Good to see some mopar fans here. I own a big block powered Plymouth 68 satellite and bought a v8 powered Dakota new back in the 90s. That Dakota pulled my exes horse trailer all over the north east and went 250k with not one issue. Cool adaption of an engine stand, time to learn how to use the welder I bought last year and build my own.
