3 wire rectifier

Was wondering if the rectifier on my 1987 rude 88 hp is supposed to get hot?Wasn't expecting it to be,went to touch it and darn near burnt me.

It shouldn't get that hot. Have you tested it? You may have a shorted diode in it causing all that heat. Make sure its mounted on bare metal too.

Brand new rectifier,but not sure if it's mounted to bare metal.Does it need to be on bare metal to be grounded?
