Hello all, I just purchased a 30 hp Johnson 2 stroke that came off a pontoon boat I was told. a 2001 year motor. The motor starts and runs well but when I put her to full throttle the motor does not seem to really crank out like I think it should. I am waiting for the whine sound when I am at full throttle but it sounds like I am at only half throttle. I am by no means a mechanic and don't know where to start. I can put muffs on and run in my back yard, Any help here would be appreciated

Did motor come with warranty ?---Private seller ?-----I would say it is running on 1 cylinder.----Compression test and check for strong spark on both leads.----What boat are you using it on now and did any one suggest that you may need to verify that you have the correct prop for your boat.

Bought from individual. Motor is on aluminum 16 ft StarCraft. Tried to post picture but they are too large to download. I'll put a pressure test on it and look at the spark. If I have a dead cylinder that plug should fill with gas and oil, correct? I have time to do that today. Ill get back later

Do not rev the motor on muffs. Measure spark with an adjustable open air tester, not the inline type (measure to test ignition strength). Look for about half an inch, and sharp.

Plan to change out the impeller soon as part of standard maintenance on a new-to-you motor.

I did the compression test 130 both cylinders, I don't have a adjustable open air spark tester but I did have time to do some snoopin around the motor today. The temps here in Ohio still are not fit for old people like me to get on the water yet. I remover the throttle linkage off the side of the motor, I was able to move the throttle lever about another 3/4 to 1 in farther. That may be just what I needed to get the veroom sound I am looking for. Since the motor was on a pontoon there was no need for the motor to stand on its end, so to say. aS SOON AS IT WARMS SOME i'' LL get it out on the water and see. Thanks to all
