30 HP water pump?

Hi folks this is my first time on the Merc board. I usually frequent the Johnson/Evenrude forum since both of my motors are Johnsons. Anyway my son asked me to come over tonight an help him change the water pump on his Mercury 30. It is a mid to late 90s model and he does have a manual. Sorry I don't have a lot of info on the exact model but I was just wondering if there are any special tricks or tips needed doing this job on a Merc. I know with a Johnson a lot of people forget to disconect the shift rod or sometimes don't see the bolt under the trim tab. Any common pitfalls with a Merc?<br /><br /> Thanks in advance

Thanks, It wasn't so bad. Actually almost exactly like my Johnsons only a little easier due to the fact that I was working on a 30 hp as opposed to a 115 and 110 on my two Johnsons. The only real difference I liked on the Merc. It was a lot easier to disconect the shift rod on the Merc. Anybody who has ever tried this task on an 89 Johnson 110 will know what I am talking about.
