I have 1993 ranger 372v with a 175 hp evinrude intruder v6 engine. I took it out on the water and had difficulty starting and maintaining idle. When i tried to accelerate the boat it was hesitant but it did break a plan. On full throttle it would not go faster than 30 mph. I stopped quickly because i knew something was wrong. I tried again to accelerate, but this time it would not break a plane...It would only go about 10 mph. When i got home i checked the compression. All the cylinders tested 88-90 psi except the starboard top cylinder which tested 30 psi. What do you guys think is going on? Could it possible be rings or head gasket? I really hope it is not a scored cylinder.... Any ideas would be greatly appreciated

Only way to know is to pull the cylinder head and inspect.

Pull the head and inspect as suggested, this engine use o-rings as a cylinder gasket and I myself have never see one fail. These engines are known to leak water into #1 cylinder and damage it do to a glue line in the casting process.

thanks guys... I am not a mechanic but I generally make all repairs to my vehicles (brakes, water pumps, alternators, starters, power steering pumps) Is there anything special i need to know about pulling the cylinder head?
