I have a 25ft. hydra sport vector. It had twin 150hp johnson's. When I got the boat, they had been sold. will the boat handle twin 300hp motors????/ Weight, torque, ect. Its set up for twins, is the bolt pattern the same on the 300's as the 150's. Thanks
PS: The only reason IM thinking of doing this is the motors are a steal at 3,500.00 for both. Please advise:

Re: 300hp johnson's

When you punch outta da hole. you are putting tremendous pressure on the top of the transom/motor mounting bracket, plus the dead weight of the engines.

Agree on the rating.

But, if your rig is not in good shape (rotten transom) type thing, when you punch it you will find your motors spinning around in circles while dangling from your control cables. With that sized engine, probably break free and sink to the bottom.

Had a friend that overpowered his boat and this is exactly what happened; ripped the transom (top half broke away and fell back) completely out of the boat and the boat almost sank.

Re: 300hp johnson's

I have a 25 WA Hydra Sport with a single 300 and that's power enough. It runs at 50 MPH WOT 5500 RPM. (Gotta change the setup, there's more left). The boat is rated at 300 HP max. The speed you achieve with twins is less than with single due to the drag factor. I have a small kicker for trolling and come home purposes. The other thought is the fuel consumption. Just hook it up to a gas station. Running at 4200 rpm and I can go through 70.00 in a couple of hours.
If you buy them both you will have a spare to use parts from..
You may want to check the transom height if you decide to got the single engine route. I have noticed my transom is cut down to run with a single setup.
