I would like to hear what the outcome is to be, if I add 27 horsepower to a smaller 888. I'm sure the gear ratio is 2:1 for the 215, and guessing 1:5 ??? on the 888. Both Wil adapt to the back, yes I will make the transom hole smaller and will have to adjust the motor to accomodate the smaller hole. One more toss up...the little 188hp is 2bb...the 215hp is 4bb. I'm all about it, so how do I not shred the drive gears, or the lower....the 215 is running and in the boat, the 888 is very good condition....looking at it Sat. Tell me I'm dreaming this. Also did I hear something about how Ford/Merc split during the middle of these 888, so certain serial#'s are different...I'm leaving this up to guys to discuss......thank you kind fellows.

I forgot this is going on a houseboat...72 Nautiline. More home than a rivertoy.
The 215E is RH rotation, I'll have to find out and ask him about 888 and year. Truely was happy driving home from marina know I'm just another mountain away... If this doesn't fly, I'm not cutting the transom hole and smartly adding an outboard. Just wanted to try.

Ayuh,.... What drive is there now,..?? TRS,..??

Both motors are 302 Fords, one with a 2bbl. carb, the extra horsepower comes from the 4bbl....

Are you wantin' to swap the drives, not the motors,..??

The 888, MC-1, I believe won't take a right-handed motor,.... They're all for left-handed motors,....

gear ratio for both will be about 1.62. the 1.5:1 ratio is for 350's and larger a 2:1 ratio is for 4 bangers

your pushing a houseboat, doubt you would notice 27 hp different

Yes, bondo..you have it correct...I'm still hunting on 888 drive RH or LH. My rare old 215E has a button that you could run either.
