I have a 95 seaswirl spyder with a omc cobra 5.0 (302) in it. I pulled heads and found a unrepairable cracked block. I'm debating on purchasing a new motor or finding a rebuildable block and transferring all of components off old block. Had my original heads checked out and they are reusable after they get resurfaced. Guess my main questions are...Are all 302 blocks the same? Will all my internal and external components bolt right up, let's say from a 70's 302 block or do I need to keep looking and stay around the same year as boat? Thanks

Here is a good website to ask that question, http://www.network54.com/Forum/119417 The 5.0 would most likely be different than the 302 in cam bearing dimensions. There also might be a difference in the rear main seal so I do not know if a 50 oz imbalance 5.0 crank will work out in a 24 oz imbalance 302 block. Otherwize, all your stuff will fit up. Check out the website. They (especially Bob) will be able to give you the straight scoop.

I had the same issue as you on my seaswirl. I got a rebuild block and now swapping all the parts.
Depends on the condition of the rest, I saw a brand new (not rebuild) engine complete for sale for $2500, all new down to oil filter and break in oil. This could be a better buy if you want to be sure and don't wanna waste time taking engine apart. Can be a few hours work and back on water.
I kinda wish I went new as during the tear down found a bunch of other crap that needed to be replaced and also rust build up on other components that I ended up keeping but really should have replaced.
Rebuild short block would set you back $1300-$1600, long block $1400-$1700.... all brand new $2500...

iBoats sells rebuild blocks that you can order. I'm still wrenching on mine. Getting cold outside so not in a major rush.
