My 302 inboard engine that has ran extremely well since I have owned it (2 years) all of a sudden has developed a stall on acceleration. While I am leaning towards a carberator problem (it is a Holly 4 bbl and/or a partially obstructed final filter) I would like to hear from anyone out there on this. Is there anything else that could contribute to this??? Dirty jets, etc. It idles well and runs well at hi speed (3500 to 4000 rpms) but will not hold rpms above idle up to 3500. Any thoughts out there??

Possible carb. rebuild, my guess accelerator pump and/or power valve. The 302 should give you 4200 to 4600 RPM with out any trouble.

Thanks llerrad, she does run fine over 4k rpms, I just very seldom run over 4k rpms (sucks up the go gas). Do you think the lower rpm bogging could mean the same problem?

Re: 302 Sluggish Acceleration

It's only my guess as I have the same engine. Fuel mixture is not correct when it bogs, hesitates on acceleration usually the accelerater pump or power valve in the carb. You may want to check vacuum this can also indicate the health of the valves and proper mixture settings.

Thanks llerrad, I will check it out. If the weather holds here; we have been having some pretty bad weather in the afternoons lately, I will check it out sometime this week. Your help is much appreciated.
