Sure, or at least eventually after lots of work.

Click here scroll down, and check the head numbers and see what they are, then try your question again.

Re: 305/350 heads

I can get them for free, and have enough boat anchors around here now, but a winter project is needed. If not worthy of the effort, I can pass them on to someone. Just can't see them going to the dump. I have some literature in my files on heads, just have to go dig it out. Thanks. I'll check out your link!

Re: 305/350 heads

robby, I checked when I did my swap and you can get the 305 heads to bolt on but I wound up gettting the 350 long block to get the 350 heads for the reason Bondo posted, the valves are not the same size and the smaller 305 valves are certainly not going to get you the performance from the 350 you would expect. Also, watch for the year issue as in 87 to 88 they changed from the heads with the 4 bolts around the rim of the valve covers to the center line blots. This also changed the angle of the two center intake manifold bolts (the newer year has better access and less valve cover gasket leaks) but the bottom line is if you get the wrong one you'll be buying a new intakes manifold and valve covers wasting the money you are saving by trying to salvage the 305 heads.

OK guys, I'm smarter now than before! And a little late in getting back. No 305 head will ever see the light of my shop! Thanks.

Robby,

Not sure if you might be interested, but I have a set of heads, casting numbers 3998993 that I took off a 350 out of an Owens cruiser. They have 1.940 intake and 1.50 exhaust valves. They are in decent shape and would let them go for next to nothing if you pay shipping. Don or one of the other experts could let you know if the would fit your 88 model.

Robby6950,,Its late, too late to explain, but, there were more than one set of 305 heads. The 305 is really high torque at low end, probably the most of any GM small block.Around this neck-of-the-woods,the first thing hot-rodders do is put on 305 heads.I rebuilt a 72-350 this summer and put on 305 heads,I have trouble finding a starter that will turn it over. Not all 305 heads are the same.

Most 305 heads have 55 cc chambers and will push compression way too high on a 350 for even 93 octain

Re: 305/350 heads

These 305 heads were to be free....I have no need for heads now (but thanks, KF!), just looking at a possible free set I could use for a project motor. And on the 305 on a 350, I wasn't sure if they would be "low end torque" (wanted-big boat), or "high RPM HP makers"-not wanted. But with small cc volume, no good. Thanks for that info though guys..learn something new every DAY here!
