AQ225B w/280 finally gave up, 33yrs. Acquired a Marine Power replacement 350 Vortec. Will I have issues with the engine mounts or will they just bolt up. Marine Power has not responded. Comments would be appreciated.

Ayuh,... Except for the intake manifold, ya it's a Plug, 'n Play swap....

Ooops,... 33 years,... Ya might have flywheel/ coupler issues...
The crankshaft bolt pattern changed in 87...

Yes, you will have problems. The new engine has a 14" flywheel. The flywheel cover will not fit over the 14" flywheel, the 225 has a 12". You will also need a flex plate for the flywheel. Front mounts will not be a problem, they should bolt right up.

Don,... While most New motors come with the 14" flywheel,...
The 12, 3/4" flywheels Are available, drilled for the coupler, for the 3" crankshafts...
Would that be the Simple fix for these Volvo issues,..??

Looks like an option, I haven't heard of them before, so never tried one and no experience with them.
I would guess you would also have to replace the starter, and depending on the bolt pattern, the old flex plate would be needed. The older Volvos did not have couplers like Mercs have.

Ayuh,... Agreed,.. The block will need to have the straight across starter pattern drillings...

There were 2 flywheels listed at that site, 1 for each clutch bolt pattern, which is the drillings that Merc uses for the couplers,...
I Assume, Volvo uses a standard pattern for their flexplates as well,...
I posted the pattern Merc uses....

Yes they do. We always bought the universal flex plates from NAPA for any size flywheel, then ground the outside diameter down to size for the smaller flywheel. Otherwise the flex plate hit the bellhousing.

I also have no clue what the PN was. When I needed one I called NAPA, asked for Larry and told him I needed a Volvo flex plate. He would then bring one out to us. Usually involved a BS session when he showed up.
Sure miss Alaska sometimes.

Re: 305 GM to 350 GM replacement

Thanks guys, i really appreciate the comments. This engine is supposedly a complete package and the flywheel is a 12 3/4" w/modified flexplate. I was more concerned with the front engine mount location being that the original block was a '77 GM 305. I'll have to check the fit the FC to the block before I go any further.

Ayuh,... With a few, mostly internal differences, they're virtually the same block...

The motor mount bosses haven't moved since 1955......;)
