Can't remember which one of you fellows said to heat it to 250 in the oven..I set my crank in the garage overnight 10 deg and put the new bearing in boiling water for about 4 minutes and it slipped right on..I put build up grease on the shaft first. The heat from the bearing looked like it dried the water well after juggling in a paper towel. I packed the bearing with build grease and am trying to quit procrastinating putting the motor back together. I fitted the rings to the cylinders and had the pistons installed a few weeks ago. They slide nice in the bores, I used a hose clamp for a ring compressor. I may put the block together this weekend, it will drive me crazy for a few months until we get soft water to test it out though.

Putting the bearing on that way, was a very good way to do it. It went on with no stress of any kind, and you certainly can't take it to a critical temperature in boiling water. You said you packed it in grease, wash that completely out, and lube with 50-1 oil on reassembly.
