I have a 318 marinette with twin 318's I just replaced the quad carbs with performer carbs and the fuel line from the fuel pump to the carb was copper. this new line would not work with the new carbs so I was going to use marine grade fuel line, is this OK to do this?

I myself would bend up some new fuel line to fit.<br />Upon seeing it my buddies would then guffaw at how I should have stuck with rubber. Oh, well. Everyone has their strengths. Bending tube artistically is not mine.

That is what I used when I replaced my 318 with a 360. The 318’s fuel line wasn't even close and with a new carb (the inlet come in on the other side)it was never going to work. So now it is rubber fuel line.

Somewhere in recent history this topic came up......<br />You Might find it in a Search....<br />I was under the impression that a Hard line was Required between the Fuel Pump,+ the Carb......<br />But, One of the Gang found the CG Regs,+ Soft line is Fine, As long as it's Approved.....

hello<br /> bend the pipe.<br /> regular rubber lines that you buy at the auto store probably is not rated for a pressue system. that is why you dont see it used even on cars. some of the EFI motors use a flexable stanless mesh coved line but it still has threaded fittings.<br />in any case how far off do you wish to be when you find the rubber rotted through, chafed through or the clamp failed and 4 or 5 gallons of gas accumulated in the bilge before it caught fire?<br />the mechanical pump can move 30-40 gallons of gas per hour at cruing speeds.<br />small leaks on the pressure side of the pump may not show up as a running problem until its a fireball issue.<br /> good luck and keep posting

There is code for fuel systems. If the boat should ever go on fire YOUR insurance will not cover you. You need to do it to code ABYC or Coast Guard approved hoses/systems. Don't take a chance If you cant do it to code pay someone who does know.

Re: 318 inboard rubber gas line

I bought the hose at a marine store and it is CC approved hose I just want to make sure you are allowed to use hose from the pump to carb since the pressure is higher. My old boat I did this but it was an old wooden baybuilt and the engine was above deck and very well vented so I didnt care, but this boat the engines are below deck and sealed pretty tight so any gas leak can be very dangerous, I dont want to put my family in harms way by taking a chance.

Vinny.... We went thru this a few months back and I and Bondo thought like you do that it required a "hard line" between the fuel pump and the carb. Not so, At least anymore.<br /><br />sec.183.558 says in part "(a) Each hose used between the fuel pump and the carburetor must be <br />USCG Type A1'' hose."<br /><br />further reading of title 33 does give the criteria that the different rated hoses must meet. sec 183.590 says it must survive 2.5 minutes no more than 10" above the surface of a burning pan of heptane

Kevinmac If you must go with a rubber fuel line then be sure to use good ss clamps and use two clamps at each end, such has you would with exhaust boots and elbows, I myself am about to change my merc 350mag to a Edelbrock Performer (previous owner replaced original 305 to 350 but used intake and 2bbl mercarb) anyway I just ordered the hardline from merc for a Weber carb, maybe someone aftermarket may be able to help you with a hardline, that carb should be the same as a AFB carter which were available for mopar powered boats. If not maybe consider using stainless flex with AN6 or AN8 fittings.

Trent I used to think you had to have a hard line. But went over the codes when I had to replumb a boat. I found teliflex made the hoses in one foot increments coast guard approved with many different ends. I say do to ABYC codes.
