I have a 1987 Evinrude XP150. I'm trying to diagnois the miss I have. The engine starts runs and ideals fine. When cold or on the intial run it will not miss a beat. As the engine runs and warms up it will start to miss right at the top end (approx. 5200-5400 rpm). If you back off it a liitle bit or anything under 5000 rpm it will not miss at all. It's be suggested to me that I may have a stator going bad. I have a couple of questions. Is there a way to test the stator? If so whats the best way to test a 35 amp stator? I have recently changed the regulator/rectifier. I did so because the tach would cut out occasionally and it would stop charging. After I changed the RR the tach works fine and the it charges fine. While running always between 13.5 - 14.0 volts. It has also been suggested that one power pack is going bad. I have changed one already and I'm waiting for another to arrive to check and see if the other power pack is the problem. Any Suggestions? If the stator is the problem were can one be purchased and what would the approximate cost be?

Any thoughts! Dhadley, Walleye anyone. It has also been suggested on another forum that this top end miss when warm could be a timing issue. Advanced to much, detonation! Is this a possibilty?
