I like to put a teaspoon of TC-W3 (two-stroke) oil in each cylinder before trying to fire it, and turn the engine by hand a few times slowly feeling for binding, etc, while the plugs are out. You can also check spark by putting the spark plug wires on the plugs, laying them against the engine block, and pulling the start cord.<br />Good idea to go over the fuel lines now too looking for cracks or wear.<br /><br />Once she's running, check for a good tell-tail (water shoots of a fitting somewhere). Plan on changing out your impeller anyway before your first outing. They go bad just sitting around and should be changed out every couple years.
