Well, after cleaning the carb out and putting a new float in, the motor still won't start. When we try starting it the bottom spark plug will be wet while the top plug will stay dry and when we take the bottom plug out it will try to fire on one cylinder. What's wrong with this thing? It ran great up until a couple days ago. It's a 1958 johnson 35hp. Any help would be much appreciated. thanks.

Jay pull the carb and look at the reeds make sure there is no damage, if nothing is obvious stick you pinky in there a see if they are free or gummed up. if the bottom cyl is getting fire and fuel and has compression theres no reason why it won't run unless it's out of time, speaking of that you might pull the flywheel off and make sure you haven't sheared the key, if so replace the key and tighten the heck out of the nut holding the fly wheel on(had that problem one time) it will fire but at the worng time. I pulled the fly wheel then didn't get it back on tight enough. Just a thought :)

Thanks Bass Runner, sure enough I pulled the fly wheel and the key was sheared. I must not have put it on tight enough when I pulled it last time, oops. I sure hope it runs once I get that new key in. :)
