35 HP Force (1989 Serial 357F9A) Timing Question

I am rebuilding an 89 Force 35HP motor that I picked up, but I am having trouble identifying the BTDC for static or dynamic. My repair manual says "not adjustable", but I am a little skeptical about just throwing it together and letting nature take its course. There are no timing marks on the flywheel or powerhead, and I don't trust that the previous owner didn't fiddle with the timing after looking at the pistons.

Any suggestions?

To try and get some experienced and owners help, please post some pics. Such as: Pics of bare engine areas that would relate to your questions. The timing area w/o marks and pistons in question showing damage etc..
