Motor running great!!!

seems to starve itself off after running for a few.

The primer on teh tank begins as firm (preasurized) then as the engine is running, and finally stalls. The preasure is much less.

Reading the manual says that the preasure should be 1-2 lbs.

Being that I can prime and restart this engine my suspicion is that the preasure to keep fuel flow is being limited some how.

Now the question. Can I fit a standard fuel pump from a modern 35 hp outboard onto this engine and convert it to a modern tank? (obviously there would be physical mounting issues but ....)

the typical fuel pump looks like a "house" (box with top point) for all intents and purposes.

IF its an older 35 you can buy a pump kit for like 25 bucks it has springs and diaphram and everything you need to rebuild your pump.

If its a new 3cyl I dont know, I do know them new 3cyl 4blade 35s scream my buddie has one and I cant touch him with my 30 or 35, If its that I am very envious

Yes, Geek.

There were kits available to convert your engine to a fuel pumped, single fuel line, vented tank setup.

I would start at www.twincityoutboard.com. If anyone has one, they do.

Good luck. :)

I have a 1958 RDE20 Johnson 35 HP and I do believe the RDE19 is also a 1958 model. Mine has the fuel pump right from the factory. If you use a single furl line on yours you also have a fuel pump and just need the rebuild kit. If you are running a duel fuel line then you do not have the fuel pump and are using a pressurized tank. If using the duel line you may have a leak somewhere that is causing loss of pressure. Can be at tank or somewhere in the lines. There are kits available to add a fuel pump and change to the single fuel line.

RDE-19 is a 1957.

RDE-19C and RDS-20 are 1958.

I find no RDE-20 listed, but that doesn't prove anything.

The fuel pump and bypass cover it mounts on from the 1962 and later RD series engines are adaptable to the RDE-19, RDE-19C and the RDS-20.

This is the "kit" I referred to. I suspect that is what is on Bill's engine.

Good luck. :)

Hello.
I had the same problem with my '57 35 seahorse(sweet machines).Problem turned out to be clogged fuel filters.
There is one in the glass bowl and one on the bottom of the fuel pickup in the bottom of your pressure tank
I cleaned the one on the fuel pickup, discarded the one in the bowl and now she runs like a dream again.
Good luck.
