I have a 3 cylinder 1998 w/o vro hooked up and when I troll for about 15 minutes it seems to load up and I have to pull lines and take if for a high speed run, to clear it out. Last year when I had both cannonball down and dipsey divers it put a load on the boat and I had to increase the throttle a little bit so it didn't load up, and quit like it did the other night. This has always been a problem since when we 1st got the boat and it went back to the dealer once, and got a little better. Is it just a low speed adjustment or do I need to overhaul the carbs already?

Howdy, mb389gto.

What spark plugs are you using? They should be Champions in a OMC built engine.

You might try opening up the gap to .040 or even going to one level hotter plug (Champion ***J6C for ***J4C, for example).

Either of these "adjustments" were very common on the older JohnnyRudes, and they usually worked.

Good luck. :)

I have been using champions and can't remember if I went a plug hotter or not. Check it out when I get home tonight. Thanks for your reply

I presently have Champion L87YC since last year.
The operator manual calls for Champion QL86C.
The Evenrude/Johnson manual calls for Champion QL82C. It also says all VRO/OMS equipped motors the QL suppressor is recommended.
I think last year I went to the Champion L87YC and it worked OK as long as I didn't go to low on tne RPM's while trolling.
